January 18th to January 27th, 2007
Step back in time with Photographic Discovery Tours and
Workshops as we start this tour in Mexico City where history is around
every corner. Discover the magnificent 450 year old cathedral, whose foundation
is built from the ancient pyramid of the city of Tenochtítlan where,
in 1521 the Aztec emperor greeted Cortes. Experience the colourful and
spectacular Ballet Folkloric in the majestic Art Deco theatre of Bellas
Artes.
Our next stop is Morelia, abounding with awe inspiring colonial architecture,
aquaducts and vibrant colours. Explore the quaint cobblestone streets
of this colonial city full of colours. Next visit the incredible winter
sanctuary of the Monarch Butterfly. A sea of black and orange in all directions.
Your own sactuary will be the town of Patzcuaro from which each day trip
is a cultural adventure of its own. Visit world renown artisans at their
workshops where they create museum worthy pieces. Marvel at the lava fields
of Parcutin as well as the archaeology and vistas of Lake Patzcuaro. Finish
your adventure in Mexico City by night.
During the 11 day workshop/tour:
- You will witness the amazing winter habitat of the Monarch Butterfly,
incredible works produced by local artisans, intriguing landscapes and
vista as well as Mexico City by night.
- Our instructors will guide and teach you how to improve your vision,
develop your skills and capture your impressions of this journey through
time.
- You will have the opportunity to create a portfolio of photographic
images that will bear witness to the events and many layers of culture
that have shaped this city.
- You will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of this magical
area of Mexico through your discoveries, your enhanced awareness and
the images you capture.
The objective of Photographic Discovery Tours is in its
name: We strive to enhance your passion for photography as we discover,
together, this culturally and geographically unique location.
- Our photographers are fully qualified professionals who have many
years of photographic and teaching experience.
- They have an indepth knowledge of both Mexico City, Morelia &
Patzcuaro.
- Suggestions and coaching will be given on how to capture your best
images as you develop an awareness for your surroundings.
- SLR digital capture / digital observation on PDTours Laptop Computer.
- Each day has scheduled activities and ample time to explore the city
or simply relax.
- Groups are small to ensure quality feedback and coaching.
- Individual instruction will strengthen your aesthetic sensibility
and technical know-how.
- Regular sessions are scheduled to review and discuss your images and
progress.

Tour Registration and Policy
- Tour fee is $2650.00CAD plus GST. (Repeat Client Savings 10%)
Airfare is additional.
- Limited to 10 photographers per tour.
Apply early as tours sell out fast.
- A deposit of $600 CAD must accompany your registration.
(includes nonrefundable registration fee of $75)
- Payment in full is due 60 days prior to the start of a tour.

Tour includes:
- 10 nights accommodation - double occupancy with bathroom.
- Early morning snack/breakfast incl.
- Transfers to and from airport. Local land transportation to excursion
locations. Entrance to museums, galleries and historic sites.
- An introduction session prior to the tour (to be held in Ottawa).
- Observation, evaluation sessions, lectures and critiques.
- Two professional photographers will accompany the tour.
- Guide and translation services.

Participants
- Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment and
good basic knowledge of photographic techniques.
- We suggest that you take a basic photography course before you join
our tour.
- Most activities will require a moderate level of physical fitness.
It will be necessary to walk reasonable distances each day, climb stairs,
moderate hills and some ancient ruins.
- In order to capture the optimum light you may be expected to rise
a couple of hours before sunrise on certain days.
- Participants are responsible for their own medical and dietary needs
whilst on this tour.
- Excellent doctors are available should the need arise.
